About

Please join me for a hike at Bowmans Island CRNRA. We will meet in the CRNRA parking lot which is the 1st lot on the right after you enter the park. It is a smallish gravel lot. This is my favorite trail in the CRNRA. The trails consist of an almost 4 mile out and back flat trail along the river, and another 3 or so miles through the hills. We will do a total of about 6.2 miles with 450 feet of elevation, while hiking at around 2.6 mph (faster by the river, slower in the hills). The elevation gain consists of a long, but not steep, hill at the beginning, and a couple of smaller ones in the middle. There are bathrooms in the Corps of Engineers parking lot at the end of the road. Please arrive by 9:50 for a hike description and introductions. Arrive earlier if you need to buy a park pass or visit the restrooms. Daily passes are $8 and can be purchased with credit card at the entrance kiosk. It will probably be easier to purchase one on-line or buy one at the Island Ford Visitor Center before the hike. The hike will start promptly at 10:00. DO NOT LEAVE ANY VALUABLES IN YOUR CAR. THERE HAVE BEEN BREAK-INS. PUT THEM IN YOUR TRUNK OR LEAVE THEM AT HOME.
